About the event

Dr. Berentsen, MD, PhD, currently serves as a consultant hematologist and senior researcher at the Department of Research and Innovation at Haugesund Hospital. He holds a PhD from the University of Bergen, where he also completed his medical degree in 1973. Dr. Berentsen’s work is centered on autoimmune hemolytic anemia, lymphoproliferative disorders, and complement-mediated diseases, with a particular emphasis on cold agglutinin disease (CAD). His extensive research in CAD has led to the development of B-cell directed therapies, making him a leading authority in this field.

At Haugesund Hospital, Dr. Berentsen provides specialized care for patients with CAD and other hematologic disorders, drawing on his vast clinical experience gained from previous roles at Haukeland University Hospital, Oslo University Hospital, and as an associate professor at the University of Bergen. His multidisciplinary approach involves collaboration with experts in hematology, immunology, and genetic medicine to offer personalized treatment plans for complex hematologic conditions.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Berentsen leads a research group focused on advancing the understanding and treatment of CAD and related disorders. His contributions include numerous original and review articles referenced in PubMed, as well as major textbook chapters. Dr. Berentsen is also a coauthor of the CAD section in UpToDate and frequently presents his findings at international conferences, including the American Society of Hematology (ASH) meetings, where his work continues to influence the field of hematology.
